Top 10 Life Lessons from a Spirit Junkie

Warning!  This post is a little different that many of my nutrition and recipe posts.  When I started down my holistic nutrition path, it was more about the food and the nutrients, but what I’ve learned is that the whole mind – body- spirit view of health is truly important! So instead of the usual recipe and nutrition tip post, think of this as a list of recipes for your soul!

So I was in New York City a couple of weekends ago for Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass.  An amazing weekend filled with lots of inspiration and learning, pushing past fear, and new friends.

Here’s the top 10 lessons that I’d like to share with you from my Spirit Junkie weekend.  We’re counting them down from 10, David Letterman style.  Make sure you read through to number 1, my favourite lesson of the weekend!

10.  Be the Light. (Rha Goddess)

I wasn’t too familiar with Rha Goddess before, but she is truly inspiring!  Being the light doesn’t have to be complicated, or something that you have to be spiritually enlightened to do.  All you need to do is be willing to hold the space for your own transformation and the transformation of others through the commitment of your presence.

9.  Step out, shine bright, and don’t be afraid to GO BIG. (Gabby Bernstein)

When you shine brightly, you give others permission to do the same.  We all have a message to share with the world, so don’t waste your time and energy wondering it your message is “big” enough, or important enough to share.  Although it may seem like common knowledge to you, the world is waiting to hear what you have to share.

8.  I am not afraid of failure because I am fully supported and loved by the Universe.  (Leanne Weaver)

Yes, this one is from me! Part of my “Power Statement” exercise during the weekend that’s meant to help you connect with what a higher power means to you.  That could be God, or spirit, or whatever resonates with you.  The point is that there is a higher power out there, and that higher power has your back, no matter what.  So go out there, feel your fear, and do it anyways.   If you succeed, awesome!  If you fail in the traditional sense of the word, know that you never really fail if you learn.  In fact, out “failures” are often our greatest successes because they lead us to where we need to be next.  It’s all a journey my friends.  Don’t be afraid to take the first step, or the next step on your path.

7 . Vulnerability is the new sexy. (Rha Goddess)

Don’t be afraid to show your true self.  As an introvert, I know that can be scary at times, and just writing this post is vulnerable for me.  But just go for it, and be ready for the beautiful adventure that the universe has in store for you.  it will take you to places beyond your wildest dreams.

6.  Spiritual dependance leads to financial independence. (Gabby Bernstein)

When you’re moved by your message, your message will move the masses.  Instead of focusing on “how can I make more money?” focus on what you’re passionate about, spread your message to the world, give your best in all that you do, even in a job that you my not be super passionate about.  Bring your authentic self, day by day, and trust that everything else will take care of itself.

5.  Treat your people like they’re the kings or queens of the universe! (Kira Luna)

Kimra is a kick ass online business rock star who I’ve been following for a while now, so I was familiar with her story of going from living on welfare, to having a million dollar business in just over a year!

This message can apply not only to your clients or potential clients if you’re in business, but your friends, your partner, your co-workers…. really  anyone you have a close relationship with.  Be grateful, let them know how much they mean to you, and never take any of your relationships for granted.

4.  Obstacles are detours in the right direction. (Gabby Bernstein)

We all go through hard times.  Instead of focusing on the negative or feeling sorry for yourself, shift your perception! Be at peace with your pain, sadness, or whatever negative emotions you are feeling.  You can only really move on when after you truly feel the pain or sadness.  As the saying goes, this too shall pass.  And when it does, you’ll be amazed at what incredible opportunities will open up to you!

3.  Shift your message from “Here’s what I believe” to “How cool is this?” (Jordan Bach)

I never knew Jordan Bach before, but he’s super inspiring, and very cute 🙂 (and also very gay, sorry ladies).       If you have a message to share with the world, your friends, your loved ones, or anyone important in your life, try not to be preachy.  People will hear what they’re ready for, and that’s enough.  Share the things that you think are cool, show your enthusiasm, and that’s all you need to do.

2. Health is a currency. (Gabby Bernstein)

Yes, it’s so true and such a great way of thinking about health!!  When we are healthy, we feel better, love more, have more energy, and add more value to the world, and there’s nothing more rewarding and fulfilling than that!  Don’t wait until it’s too late to take care of your health.  Live a healthy life because you love yourself.  You are so worth it!

1. Fuck it let’s go! (Gabby Bernstein)

Don’t let perfectionism paralyze you!  You are never going to be perfect so don’t let that get in the way of just STARTING ALREADY.  Be willing to be imperfect, let go of the fear, and GO!  Life is to short to wait for the perfect circumstances to start doing whatever it is you want to do my beautiful friends.  As a recovering perfectionism addict, this was my biggest lesson of the most amazing weekend.  Get out there and live the life you love!

I hope that some of these spiritual recipes resonate with you as much as they did with me.
